Medical Assistant

Program Information
 
Hawaii Pacific Health’s Medical Assistant Program is offered to high school seniors on campus. Upon completion of the program and achievement of national certification, students will be given primary consideration for employment at an HPH Facility.

The program consists of two semesters of coursework and 225 hours of clinical externships. Coursework includes anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, administrative medical assisting and clinical medical assisting, among other classes. Everything taught in the program is designed to mimic a real world scenario, and the skills that are taught to our students are pulled from situations that occur in the clinic setting.  

Students will learn how to prepare medical records, reporting patient history summary, and prepare patients for examiner by performing preliminary physical tests: blood pressure, weight, and temperature.

 

Schedule: M,W,F, Periods 1, 3, 5, 7

 

Location: Waipahu High School

 

Certification: Certified MA after class completion + pass national certification exam

 

Cost of Program: Free (Not Covered: Supplies/Textbook cost is approximately $800 - $1000)

 

Benefits: Employment in HPH facility as a licensed MA with a projected average starting wage of $18.38 (Hawaii data)
